OUR MISSION : “Inspiring, nurturing and enriching our children’s lives…enhancing a greater future”.
OUR VISION At The King’s Children’s Foundation we believe that every child should have the opportunity to learn in a conducive environment irrespective of their background. Rising levels of illiteracy within our public schools is a serious source of concern for our children and youths today. The King’s Foundation (TKF) is a non-profit organization with a mission to help make our nation literate. We intend to do this by providing nutrition to school children in order to promote concentration and learning. Our goal is to improve the quality of education in public primary schools in Lagos, and to that end we have two programs namely the Feed A Child program and the HELP program.
The Feed A Child Program
This is our flagship program. This involves the feeding of children in public primary schools with the aim of keeping the children in school, in a bid to combat the rising levels of illiteracy in our nation. This program has currently kicked off in Gbagada, Lagos State, and involves feeding 300 students in 3 public schools. The feeding program started off in October 2009, and there has been a remarkable increase in enrolment in all the schools included in the program. Our longterm goal is to extend the feeding program to all the public primary schools in Lagos state.
The HELP Program
The HELP program is our literacy program. It currently involves three sub-programs; an annual essay competition, an annual art competition/art exhibition, and a reading class. The King’s School annual essay competition: this was designed to engage the minds of young people in a creative way, and use the contest to showcase some of the most creative solutions to national and global issues. The competition is open to all young children in public and private schools in Lagos State in two age categories (8-10 years old and 11-13 years old), who are in full time education. The King’s Children’s Foundation Children’s Art Exhibition: this has become a celebrated annual forum for children in public and private schools in Lagos to showcase their artistic talents and prowess. It started in 2008 and runs every year. The Reading Program: We host a reading program from 11am to 5pm (2 Saturdays a month) in the Transit Home Ipaja Ayobo. This is a transit home for victims of domestic abuse. We organize reading programs for the children of the women in the home. There are about 35 children aged 3 years to 18 years involved in the reading program. The program involves teaching the women and children to read, comprehension, and phonetics. The reading program started in January 2015. In the future, we hope to establish a mobile library that will enable us to reach a lot of public schools in Lagos and improve the literary skills of the students
